Staff Surveys

The University of Arizona Staff Council believes in the power of staff voices to highlight the positive aspects and challenges of our work environment and bring about institutional change. To this end, Staff Council is proud to support survey efforts designed to provide concrete data that can guide current and future initiatives.

2024-25 Workplace Climate Survey

The 2024-25 University of Arizona Staff Council (UASC) Workplace Climate Survey was open from August 27 to September 30, 2024. This anonymous survey allowed all university staff employment categories and transitioning University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) staff to share their voices in shaping a more positive and productive environment at the U of A.

Staff have been heavily impacted by the university's financial crisis. The survey aimed to identify and assess the underlying impacts experienced by staff. Data collected from this survey has and will continue to frame immediate and strategic actions by the Staff Council to address workplace climate at all levels, including with senior leadership.

This survey covered topics including: Was the university effective in navigating the effects of the crisis? Are there issues that drive you to seek other employment opportunities outside of the university? Are you treated fairly in your work unit, and do you feel you belong at the university?

Staff Council is grateful for the high engagement (21% response rate) of staff on this survey and are committed to continued advocacy for more positive work experiences. To engage with us on this important work, attend our monthly meetings on Zoom or consider becoming a representative.

2022 Flexible Work Survey

In spring 2022, Staff Council partnered with University Initiatives and Human Resources on a Flexible Work Initiative. The initiative had three primary goals:

  1. Gain a deeper understanding of current University workforce needs and experiences related to flexible work.
  2. Learn from the offices/units who are already leading the way in this area.
  3. Develop guidance and resources that assist supervisors and employees to successfully implement flexible work arrangements that are:
    1. Equitable
    2. Responsive to the unique needs of units across campus
    3. Aligned with the University's employee recruitment and retention goals.

The Staff Council developed and administered a staff survey in May 2022 to better understand the current flexible work arrangements staff have, the greatest benefits of flexible work, and the greatest challenges. At the same time, the Flexible Work Initiative administered a complementary supervisor survey.

Key Findings and a full report of the survey data can be found on the Flexible Work Initiative webpage.
