The Emily Krauz Endowment for Staff Professional Development Award provides funds for University of Arizona Staff professional development to support career advancement and continued education. The award was originally established as the Staff Endowment Fund in the late 1980s as part of the Century II Capital Campaign. In 1996, the fund was renamed in honor of Emily Krauz, a dedicated staff member who worked at the Faculty Center. The endowment was funded by donations from U of A employees and contributions from Emily's family and friends. Staff Council stewards the endowment and administers the award.
Award Details
U of A Staff Council plans to annually award up to 10 awards of up to $500 per recipient (5 each per fall and spring semesters). Applications will open twice per year, in the fall and spring semesters, with deadlines in September and February. Applications will be evaluated based on the description of the proposed professional development activity and its benefit to an individual's career progression and continuing education. Awards are made as reimbursements to recipients and are contingent upon receipt for the activity.
Applicant Eligibility
- Must have been a benefits-eligible staff employee (classified or university) for at least 1 year (12 months) at the time of application AND at the time of award/reimbursement.
- Must be, or plan to be, enrolled in college courses, certificate courses, or a professional development program.
- Pay grade 9 and below per the U of A staff pay structure.

- Scroll to the bottom of the Employee Details page where Pay Grade is listed under Position Details.
- Awards are contingent upon receipt demonstrating payment for the relevant professional development opportunity.
- This award is disbursed as a reimbursement only per U of A payment rules.
- Reviewers cannot apply during a cycle in which they are a reviewer.
- Benefits-eligible employees are eligible for one award every five years from the end date of the previous award.
Selection Process
A. Review
A selection committee comprised of Council members will review and select the recipient(s).
B. Decisions and notifications
Decisions will be made in November for fall awards and May for spring awards to allow for notification, purchase, receipt submission and reimbursement.
C. Award period
Awards are granted semesterly during the academic year of the award, but funds must be expended within the fiscal year of application. The award notification will specify the end date.
Deadline for Applications
Applications for the Spring 2026 Award must be received no later than 5 p.m. MST on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Check back for the 2026-2027 application deadlines.
